Noticed today a couple of times changing between 3rd/4th gear I was getting a brief burst of loud rattling. Sounded like it was associated with something quite powerful by the intensity and frequency. Hard to tell where from but in the engine bay somewhere behind the pedals is my best guess. Below 4000 rpm everything sounds OK and also if I rev up through the range with out changing gear its OK. At higher rpm the engine noise and wind noise make it hard to tell whats going on when I change up or down. Found that in neutral if I blipped the throttle, again at around 4000 rpm, I get the same noise. I have no idea what this is - I'm purely guessing at some sort of loose metal cover or heat shield? Car is MY00 UK with <2000 mls.
Please let me know if this sounds familiar to anyone?

Just a possibility, I have had my MY00 just a year now and when new (up until the 7500 service), I had a similar noise occuring on the car when changing gear. Unfortunately, mine was throughout the rev range from around 3500 to 6000 rpm.
Had the dealer look at it when serviced (lived with it for a few months) and it turned out to be the brake lines on the back of the bulk head, just to the left of the turbo. They were vibrating on the bulk head which was rectified by some rather crude looking engine sound proofing being stuffed down the back of the brake lines. Fixed the problem but looks crap if you are a bit particular about your engine bay.
Good Luck
