my 95 wrx is overboosting in 2 gear, and was wondering if it's worth cleaning the wastegate solenoid, i've heard that you use brake cleaner , could anyone tell me how to clean the solenoid . thanx

the solenoid doesn't really cause it to overboost it usally causes it to cut the boost and cleaning it won't work it will only come back after a while.

Scoobyboy.
I think that the fact that it can sometimes cut the boost gives the impression that the car is overboosting. Cleaning it out with brake cleaner will often cure this.
I believe there's a method that allows you to join two green wires under the dash with the ignition on which sucks the cleaning fluid through the system. I'm sure if you do a search you'll see it somewhere.

Stef, tried doing a search but found nothing useful , could you please give me tips on doing the job, like what pipes to take etc.

replace it with a modified solenoid it would stop the boost cutting out and you will not have the problem again.
cleaning it is only a temporary cure it WILL come back
