A complete review of the 2000 factory sponsored Corvette LS-1 Race program resulted in the adoption in 2001 of the Bosch MS2.9 engine management system which incorporated Closed Loop Kock Control.
Dont think I need any Kock control

I´m interested too,but it needs to be that J&S can ship them too the persons he want´s this,

I live in Denmark and i need it to shipped to here.

But if we can say that we will buy 10 of them and order them seperat, then this would be great.

I'm in too.

But same as Skassa, it'll have to be sent to me separately since I'm in Taiwan.

Have seen it in action.

So yeh! Count me in.

Steve.

Just one reservation.

What's the advantage over Mappable W/I?( Barring running out of water. As if?).

by the way, should I tap into the original sensor or my knocklink's Bosch sensor? Any advantage of either one over the other?

Actually I just re-read title, and I would be interested in a 4 CHANNEL version which a few others might be as well.

You only need 4 channel if you have a ECU with sequential 4 channel ignition like the 92-96 factory ecu, and many of the aftermarket ECUs.

Hi Skassa,

the Link V5 uses the same 2-coil setup for ignition output so the 2-channel version should work just fine.

But if you decide to go for the 4-channel one, make sure it is setup to take the wasted spark into acccount and retard the apprapriate knocking cylinder.

Hi All,

John from J&S just mailed me this,as i had already asked about the Safegaurd for myself.

"quote"
Skassa:

John Banks let me know that there may be interest in a group purchase.

Apparently, there is some confusion as to which unit to get.

Our 1ch/2ch unit is user configurable. The two channel mode is used for four cylinder, waste spark sytems. This is the unit we usually sell to the Subaru community, for cars with the dual coil, waste spark system.

The 1ch/2ch unit could also be used on the WRX with four coils, if you don't mind wiring them for waste spark operation.

The 1ch/2ch unit has a built in MAP limiter (adjustable voltage clamp), which you can set to clamp anywhere from 2.5v to 4.95v.

This unit also has a TPS modifier circuit. At a pre-determined boost setting (say 3 psi) an output wire can pull the TPS signal to 4.3v, which should take the ECU out of closed loop operation.

Our 2, 3, 4 channel unit could also be used, but it lacks the voltage clamp and TPS modifier circuits.

The 2, 3, 4 channel unit is not user configurable. The number of channels is preset at the time of manufacture.

The four channel variant is the most logical choice for the four coil WRX. The two channel variant could also be used, if you wire the coils for waste spark.

On the 1ch/2ch units, mode switches three and four are normally used to configure the unit to work on one of four ignition types. If we know in advance that the unit will be used on a waste spark Subaru, those switches could be used in another way.

For example, we could program a mid-range RPM retard/advance function. In our Focus application, assuming the boost exceeds 4psi, the unit retards the timing, starting at 2500 RPM, and increases linearly with RPM, maxing out at 3500 RPM. At 4000 RPM, the unit starts re-advancing, and is back to the stock setting by 5000 RPM.

Switches 3 and 4 let you select (for example) 0, 2, 4, or 6 degrees of mid-range retard.

These RPM start/stop points and amounts are only an example. They are not user programmable, but I can change them when I program the unit. If you choose different break points, keep in mind that the ramp up/ramp down delta RPM must be equal.

For example, you could specify start retard at 4250, reach max retard at 5000, start re-advance at 6000, and back to stock at 6750. In this case, the delta is 750 RPM.

The mid-range retard is also modulated by MAP. If boost is less han 2psi, no RPM retard. If greater than 4 psi, full calculated amount. Between 2 and 4 psi, retard is proportionally less.

The mid-range retard feature is also available on the 2/3/4 channel unit.

The mid-range retard is in addition to whatever boost retard and knock retard is present.

Hope this isn't too confusing.

John."Quote end"

I think that wastedspark is that the coil fire two cylinders at the time, and then the one spark is "wasted" in the exhaust stroke

Is this not true??

And this is the way that the impreza runs the ignition

Must be difficult for a French man to communicate with a Dane using English. LOL. I admire you for trying. Wish I could speak more languages/better.
Wasted spark: The cylinder is fired every revolution so while a spark is only needed on the compression stroke on a wasted spark system there is also a spark on the exhaust stroke. Compris?

Colin, you can use the four channel or use the 2-channel and rewire to wasted spark - I'll probably do the latter.
