Question

Can someone explain whether tuning a SC engine will be as 'straight forward' as a turbo charged one, ie exhaust,ECU remap and about 20-30 extra ponies?

Same theory as a turbocharged car except that you get boost early on I guess. Oh and its not run from exhaust gasses but from a belt. In other words, I never had it before.

pretty much..

you can change the size of the pulleys...

I would expect better gains lower down in the rev range as superchargers seem better at low revs.. and gutless at the top end.. unlike turbos..

Thanks. I was told that the ECU does not control the SC it is purely mechanical via the pulleys you mention. Can you explain how the size of the pulleys adjusts boost? They maybe gutless at higher revs but thats not such a problem given a decent sized engine in the first place?

think of a mountain bike

change the size of the sprocket on the back wheel and u can make the wheel spin faster or slower

this applies to the super charger pulley wheel
fit a smaller one and it will spin faster = more boost

Thanks Sticky. With most mods there is a downside, ie bigger turbo, lose a little at the bottom. What would be the theoretical downside of having a smaller pulley?
