Question

I have recently purchased a 95 scooby turbo and have noticed that the rev counter doesn't appear to be reading correctly. It seems to read less than the actual engine speed upto about 3-4000 rpm. For example at 60 mph in top it reads 2000 instead of 2500 rpm. At tickover the needle doesn't budge off the zero. Any suggestions???

Sorry I don't have an answer but, I see you are from Bath , what colour is yours and 4/5 door? I often see lots of 5 doors but the miserable burgers never wave . If you see a silver STI 2 give us a wave

Mark,

Has your car had white faced dials fitted? Or any signs that someone has been inside the dash? The only thing I can think of if it's constantly 500rpm down is the needles been off at somepoint and put back in the wrong place. At rest with engine off the needle should be pointing to 500 (if you look at the scale and work back from 1000!!)

If it was electrical you'd expect it to be either erratic or a fixed percentage out. (Indicated 2000 at real 2500 is 20% slow, so at an indicated 5000 the engine would be doing 6000.)
