Tim,
To make access easier you will have to remove the air box, battery and the windscreen washer bottle.
As far as tools are concerned you need a ratchet (3/8" drive are small enough), a shortish extension (~2") and a plug socket (one with a rubber insert for gripping the plug - I found it easier to remove the rubber insert for replacing the plug otherwise getting the socket off the plug is a bugger).
When replacing the plugs take great care not to get them cross-threaded and only tighten them as per the instructions.

You shouldn't need to remove the battery, and a good trick is to extend the washer hoses, as they tend to be a bit short, and make it difficult to put the bottle out of the way. I'd also suggest removing the rubber plug from the plug socket, as it tends to jam on the plug, and you spend ages trying to get it off. Just be careful not to let the plugs drop !!!
With an induction kit, and the right tools, it takes me about 20mins.
