I've had a quick look through the search, and come up blank, so a quick question:
My oil warning light is not going off when I start the car, so obviously I can't run it at the mo (it was OK on the last journey I made - I think/hope!). I'm hoping its the sensor which has failed, not the oil pump.
I'm going to have at fitting a new sensor myself and what I'm wondering is there anything I should know? Do I need to be esp. careful of stripping threads, should I use a thread sealant, anything else clever? Or do I just unscrew the old one and put the new one in as-is?
I know this may seem a bit noddy to you all, but I'm no expert on car DIY! I'm also assuming (should be obvious when I get the new one from Halfords) that the sensor is on the top of the block, just to the left of the alternator (MY97 car).
Any help appreciated.
Ta,
Steve

Thanks for that - I like the site by the way, esp. the in-car MPEG!
I bought a sender (£5.49 - it's a pretty standard part) before seeing your site. I've had a play, and I can't reach the old sender without removing the alternator. I don't have a garage, so I've called the dealer instead of trying to do it myself on the street in the dark and rain.
They are going to send a low-loader tomorrow if an ECU reset does not clear the light tonight.
Thanks,
Steve
