I own a 97 ST I 3 and in the next few months will need to replace the clutch.Is there anybody who has already done the job themselves.Could you advise me of the problems,questions that come to mind are
1) Is it engine out or gearbox out
2) How do you disconnect drive shafts.
I have heard that a Legacy clutch will fit,I fancy this due to price and the fact that it is probably uprated from the std subaru unit.

Hi Chris,
I've assisted in the changing of my clutch a couple of time.
From what I remember -
* drain gearbox.
* release the exhaust to downpipe connection.
* undo the cv joint towards the rear of the drive shaft, remove mounting bolts and remove driveshaft.
* crack the front lower wishbone joints to release front drive shafts.
* remove gearbox.
* change clutch as normal.
* replace bits ....
* refill gearbox.
! You may need to skim the flywheel or replace.

The quickest we did this with two experienced people and me getting in the way was about two and a half hours.
