I know that I can only have a PPP fitted to my car, if I have a standard car!!
It's a bit of a pain as I currently have a ScoobySport backbox, ScoobySport downpipe, Mangnex centre and an Unifilter RamPod induction kit!
I assume I'd have to have all these modifications removed, have the PPP fitted, and then put all the bits back on again!
Is there a way around this?? Will Prodrive just fit the ECU and intercooler pipework (as I'm not really bothered about the exhaust) for me ???
Short of buying a second hand PPP ECU, can anyone help??? Or sell me a secondhand PPP ECU???

I wouldn't want to be a scaremonger but......
I personally wouldn't want a non-mappable ECU on a car with as extensive breathing mods as you have. The PPP ECU is mapped for decat centre section and backbox only. The downpipe is quite a bit free-er breathing and I'd be scared of leaning out when at high revs. At a minimum get a Knocklink fitted too, so you can keep an eye on things. I believe you can buy the PPP in Europe for self fitting (but I'm probably wrong) - this would be one way around you having to take your car to Prodrive as standard.

I have been toying with the idea of a 'sports' or high flow cat in the centre section. I guess that might solve part of the problem!!!

Well Matt, I run a UK car and I'm a banker (with a 'b' not a 'w' ) - so a naturally conservative character.
IMHO any modifications done to a cars 'hardware' (Turbo, exhaust, etc) should be followed by a modification to the cars ECU to ensure it takes full advantage, safely, of the improvement you make. Decatting is done to improve performance, I kinda figure improved performance must have a price somewhere. Maybe it's in the amount of fuel used. You can't adjust your fuelling on a Subaru ECU, it's not mappable, so you run the risk of it not coping with the new setup.
The stock ECU (and PPP one) does over-fuel generally, but............
I know of cars running std ECU's that det before any mods, improving the breathing can only make the problem worse.
I'm not a tuner, but I know a few, and they wouldn;t recomend running stock ecu with full straight thru exhaust. Sadly, I know that the independent dealers can't support me on this, cause they sell alot of exhausts and downpipes to people running stock set-up. Ah-well, I'm not making friends here . You'll 'probably' be allright with decat system on a UK car on SUL...(octane booster for track days)...but it certainly isn't ideal.

Funny one this chucky! I have a UK98 car with stock internals and stock ECU running fully de-catted exhaust/induction kit front mount intercooler, huge HKS GT turbine and an hks boost controller running 1.15bar and it's been perfect for 50k miles. I don't believe that an ecu needs to be remapped for safety due to breathing mods..not on a uk car anyway which already runs excessively rich. Despite all these mods my car is still running extremely rich.
Sure I could gain much more power and torque with a re-map but the car is perfectly safe with the map it has. The standard map is a broad one to deal with loads of variables such as poor grade fuel, high ambient temps etc etc. AFAIC..and I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong...but having a remap to optimise your mods is narrowing down this map and making it more specialist. I personally have steered clear of ecu mods for the time being and I'm not intending to embark upon any ecu mods until I've uprated my internals and decide to run higher than 1.2bar! Upto 1.2bar I simply don't believe that the ecu needs remapping for SAFETY reasons on a uk car...the standard ecu is more than capable of self compensating for fuelling and ignition timing via the lambda and knock sensor. I've had my car checked both on the rolling road and with the select monitor plugged in on the real road with absolutely no problems.
However the Jap based cars...imports and 22b uk's then I'm sure this goes out the window as the variables they have been mapped for are outside the parameters of the uk...ie crap fuel, in which case a remap would probably be wise for safety reasons but I don't know enough about imports to offer a proper opinion!
