Which Induction Kit??
#1
I have a MY98 UK Impreza with a Scooby Sport back box and currently an ITG airfilter.
I want to fit an induction kit but don't know which on to go for.
1. Which kit is the best?
2. What gains will be seen from fitting this?
3. What are the maintenance procedures and how often do these need performing?
4. Has anyone fitted the Graham Goode kit and how did you rate this??
Your answers are appreciated.
Thanks
Mark.

Yes, it is the Induction Kit!
My brother got it from Demon Tweeks, i think it was about £85?
Or you could try Performance Parts on 01582 576222.
I'll let you know tomorrow.........

I have the HKS green Mushroom job.
It looks wierd.
Sounds OK, unless your my wife.
Car appears to spool up quicker.
Dont know about the power gains
What ever you do/get make sure its securly fitted so that it does not shagg the MAF sensor

Mr Davenport, i am happy enough with my HKS cone (in blue, to match my car and my newest watch!)
Would suggest you avoid Blitz, cant comment on much else - depends how much you want to spend also?

I have a K&N in my (8 car, and it seems to perform pretty well.
The noise is great without being obtrusive like the PX and HKS ones.
The GGR kit is supposed to be a bespoke jobbie, but it just uses a K&N cone with a larger trumpet....and costs over twice as much!
Get a K&N, you'll love it.
Stef.

Chris,
Thanks for that. I may be poping down on Sat so I will ask around.
Tim,
Do you know if that of your is different than Chris's, i.e yours being a filter and Chris's being an induction kit (sorry if i'm being stupid!). If they are the same how can one be quite and the other be noisy.
Also how do you know if you are getting over boost??
Thanks
Mark.

Here we go then!
Pipercross fitted last night!
1. WOW what a noise, Induction ROAR is fantastic! Don't think my girlfriends gonna like it though!
2. MAF sensor. It says in the instructions not to coat the filter in oil/cleaner unless intended for serious offroad use....!!!! So I havn't! Just hope they're right?
3. Fitting took approx an hour and a half. This was because Demon Tweeks sent the correct box but slightly different internals (pretty much up to their usual standard of CRAP!) Luckily my mate who designs and bulids sports car was able to make a few mods, so that everything went together fine!
4. Not sure whether it feels any quicker yet? but it deff. seems to spin up quicker, and also seems more responsive. Worth it for the noise though!
5. The fuel tank seems to empty itself a lot quicker......! --- Oh well !

I've got an HKS induction system on my MY00 (green cone (which doesn't match the colour of the car ). Makes lots of noises which may not be to everyones taste. I reckon it has improved mid range performance and it certainly makes the car run a little leaner (judging by the reduction in black carbon deposits on the exhaust). Had it fiited now for a couple of months with no problems.
Best advice I could give is come along to a meet (or goto Donington on Saturday) hear some cars and speak to some owners.
Cheers

I have the HKS super powerflow filter on my STi (green mushroom one) and took 3/4hr to fit. Car is definately better for it, a bit noisy and now get overboosting. I am having it re-mapped to eliminate the overboost. Overall....happy with the HKS thanks. A bit pricey is my only gripe!

Mark, mine is the induction kit too. It replaces the airbox and a fair amount of plastic as well. Overboost.....all power is cut momentarily then restored. You feel as if you have hit a wall. Re-map soon should cure it I'm told.

Sunlip,
I have a blitz induction kit. What's wrong with 'em?
Mine's pretty cool. Car is standard apart from a dump valve and is now putting out 234bhp on PE's rolling road, although, I now hear this rr always reads over...

I have a Piper X induction kit, fitted the same time as a Mongoose b/box.
The induction noise sounds great
Since fitting both my MPG is slightly better, i get about 20 miles per tankful more - 1.5-2ish mpg maybe.
Pick up/responsiveness at lower revs is better
Does not run out of puff ' till the red line - in all gears!
Not all down to the induction kit, b/box must have something to do with it, doing the two at the same time seemed sensible
Bought/fitted from/by my local dealership.
Hope this is not to technical for you hehe

Tim,
I have fitted at the moment a ITG air filter, SS backbox and Bailey Evo Dump valve.
I sometimes get what you said in 2nd gear when booting it at approx 3000rpm no or very little pickup and then the power tends kicks back in at about 5000rpm.
Does this sound like over boost?
Who are you getting to do your remap?
Thanks
Mark

Karlos - thought it was a filtration issue. The Blitz is a very fine wire mesh as opposed to a 'traditional' filter. With the best will in the world, you are not going to get the same level of filtration with the Blitz and I think Sunil's car suffered because of this. No doubt he will fill you in with the details.
Mark I think they are all bascially induction kits.

No Mark....just slow to spool up I guess. Overboost happens when turbo is at full speed/boost and then peaks above a certain limit and shuts itself off. Not what yours is doing.

As anyone else had the RAM Pod fitted?
If so what is it like? and is this known to damage the MAF sensor??
I can't work out whether to go for the HKS or the RAM Pod !!!!!!!! hmmm
Thanks

To all those with HKS knowledge...
Where can I purchase and have fitted an HKS induction kit?
I have been told that there are several different versions for different models. Mine car is a UK 98 Terzo - Will this be any different than one for a standard UK 98??
Also, I heard from Scoobymania that the HKS kit doesn't come with all the brackets / bolts etc to fit - anyone know if this is the case (or are they just getting me to by a Ram Pod)??
Thanks
Mark.

My car never suffered with the Blitz, but i changed it as a precaution given the filtration issues which came to my attention.
My HKS kit came with all the brackets/nuts and bolts, in fact there were a couple spare - i am told this is meant to happen!

I've got the HKS induction kit and was quite happy with it. I'd take good notice of the secure fitting of the kit as mentioned earlier in the thread as my MAF sensor has just gone on the blink. I suppose that would follow for any kit though.

Hi Guys,
Sorry to hear of your MAF sensor failure? What are your symptoms?
I don't believe this to be true of all induction kits. My maf sensor failed after 800 miles with a Pipercross and after 200 miles with a ramair panel filter. In my last car a MY99 I did almost 40,000 miles with no problems with a K&N.
I spoke to our suppliers about my concern with the current MAF sensor failures. We checked out all the filtration on the filters he supplies and the only one that meets/surpasses filtration of the original is the K&N system. Now we have to make up some brackets to get it fit properly but he guarantees me that we won't get MAF problems with these ones. They are quite expensive but we now give a 12 month MAF sensor guarantee with our filters. See if other companies will do the same? It's all about faith in your product
