Hi All,
Have noticed recently that when the car is hot I have a tinny sounding rattle coming from an area near the bottom of the down pipe to the second cat. If I rev beyond 2000rpm the noise goes away and its not there when cold.
Any thoughts? Heatshield or perhaps second cats gone?
Cheers

Sounds like the heatshield to me. Mine went like this and so I removed part of it. Mine was the part that has the lambda sensor through it and one of the parts that the fixing bolts go through had corroded through.

hope it's the heat sheild rattling as is quite common as they corrode a bit and become detached....if it's the CAT it's usually a deeper rattle(depends on where and how much of the cat has broken off inside the exhaust)....and the rattle gets steadily worse as the broken bits increase in number....also teh car starts to drive very badly...possibly one of the first signs being the onset of pinking......hope this helps....

Thanks Guys,
Had a look but couldn't find any thing. Dropped of at main dealers this afternoon and at first they thought it was just heat expansion. On furthur checking the heatshield was loose and touching the exhaust, all sorted now.
Half hoping it was the centre cat, good excuse for that decat centre pipe.
Thanks,
Lee
