it could also be your clutch, mine makes a whining noise if youve been on a long drive the night before after a few mins this clears up, try pressing your clutch pedal and see if it stops..

Matt,

Could be nothing more than the cold drive belts causing the whining noise, fitted to power steering pump etc, this will disappear as they become warmer and hence more supple and thus quieter, The belts we use on the BIG air handling units at work make an awful racket on start up until a bit of warmth gets into them, Oh my scooby is the same if it is of any comfort...

hiya,

since it has been *really* cold when I start my car for the first time of the day, or indeed when it is cold, there is a loud whine coming from under the bonnet, but only until the car is warm.

This noise sounds somewhat similar to a power steering type noise but much louder and increases in volume with the amount of engine revs.

I did pop the bonnet and have a listen, it appears to be coming from around the power steering pump area.

I have also checked all fluids, oil, water, power steering fluid etc and they are all fine, as are belt tensions. Steering also feels absolutely fine.

any ideas???

ta,
Matt
