If I replace the centre cat on my MY00 uk spec (SS backbox,ITG filter and resonatorectomy)with a catless one from an STI, will I notice a difference in volume, performance or both?
Cheers.

Pete

I've got an MY00 and I am gradually changing the exhaust. Currently run HKS induction kit, Magnex centre section (with resonator) and Magnex bb. The exhaust note has deepened as the centre section has bedded in and the mid-range response has improved (noticeable before the HKS went on). Biggest improvements will come from doing the downpipe, but I think doing the centre was worth doing as well.

Cheers

Pete,

You wouldn't be interested in swapping your UK spec centre section for my non-cat STI 5 centre section would you ?

Not wanting to tread on ChrisW's toes or anything, but I've got a WRX centre section which I believe is identical to the STI in my garage just dying to be swapped for a catted centre section! (see my post in Private).

In terms of noise it has a small resonator so volume shouldn't increase too much

Wink

Thanks for the offers guys but I'm planning on keeping my catted midsection in case I ever go for a decat downpipe and need to put the mid on at MOT time.
Is that why you want one??

Thumbs up

Pete

In a word..erm, yeah!

Having said that a recent thread suggests that an emissions test on my non "DOT listed" import is based on a non-catted test! As soon as I get confirmation of this you can have my centre section for nothing

I'll try and help with the MOT issue, not sure if this 100% right or will even make sense, but i've just MOT'd MY94 WRX, tester says if it is pre 95 there is no need for the cat. If it has a year of manufature of 95 onwards it does have a proper emissions test. But because the exact model may not be listed he is allowed to test it so its within the highest emission group. Hmmmm not sure if that will help but it was worth a try.

Cheers
