Question

A friend of mine told me to be careful when I mentioned I may change the exhaust to a Magnex SS one (centre and backbox) as my insurance may become invalid.

Do you have to declare such an exhaust to the insurance and does it normally increase premiums.

I was told that things like brakes eg EBC who only make one type of brake for the scooby and a K & N box filter are direct replacement items so don't affect insurance (whereas an induction kit would).

How about a SS exhaust. Do you need to inform the ins. co.

Exclamation

You should inform the insurance company of all modifications, air boxes and brake pads included. Better to be safe in the knowledge of full & complete disclosure.

A SS exhaust is only a direct replacement for the std exhaust so i fail to see the logic you are trying to apply?

My ins co didnt increase my premium for my exhaust mods but they did for the ecu and brakes!

Talking

I just asked this question to axa last week, when i took my pride and joy to edinburgh, i double checked i was covered for everything.

For the s/s exhaust they said just increase the over all value of the car so 300 quid for exhaust car increases by 300 quid.

The guy from axa said i could do owt except if i lowered it they would not touch it.

Ask Rum he`ll no

Anyways

Cheerio

I had this conversation with AXA - until I pointed out they were replacement parts and probably cheaper than the originals.......

I too am insured with Axa Direct and they said no probs to a SS backbox, providing it doesn't increase power by more than 5%. The schedule says "no mods", but they have confirmed it is acceptable and have received my letter on the subject.

Declare *everything* to your insurance company.

Just changed from standard alloys to PD7's, cos an extra 26 quid, not bad for 1258 quids worth of wheels, by law you have to disclose any mods to your car which will change it from factory standard, even if it costs an extra 10 quid, its still worth it

Question

Doesn't make sense to me how Insurance companies can increase premiums due to brake upgrades? Surely it should REDUCE your premium as you are making the car safer, therfore reducing the likelyhood of you twating the **** end of someone else!

...but more likely to get twatted by the guy behind

I am sure they will use the, better brakes/harder driver theory. Lets face it, Grandma in her 1-litre fiesta is unlikely to need 4-pot brembos very often!

We have a SS system on our car told our insurance company they said no problem at all and we asked them for a letter saying that

They said any mods on the brakes will not have any affect on the premium.
