ScoobyEcu: can I tweak the map myself?
#1
Or is it just the guys who are selling them who can do this? Are the specs for the map out in the open now?
Presumably you use some sort of EPROM emulator for mapping, rather than tweaking and reflashing?

Been wondering exactly the same myself recently as location prevents/restricts me trying to get custom mapping done.
Hope someone can help Eh.

EEPROM emulator would be nice - I've not found one for the 27C1028 yet though, so it's still a case of flashing the PROM and testing it for me.
TBH it's not a particularly easy job to do - someone once told me something along the lines of "You'll need to be committed to doing this, as it's a swine at times!" He was right...

yes you can tweak the maps, but it's a swine.
I developed my own software for custom mapping, it gives me location of the parts of the maps being accessed, and I overlay info from a wideband lambda sensor and manual input for the knock I hear through the detcans.
TO do it properly, I use:
Laptop,
Select monitor lead (rs232-ttl interface)
Wideband lambda sensor
Detcans
Eprom programmer
In car power inverter
1000 pieces of assorted wire and cable for above.
Easy as pie, honest.

David - I'd be interested to hear about revision 2. Anything that speeds up turn around would be a great help, now I'm being allowed to have a few more mods.
Paul - did I get the quote right?

no they are not.
it's instructions in japanese on how to make what is in effect a scoobyecu adaptor board.
There is no live emulation of 27c1028 available directly. But there is nothing to stop you plugging a 16bit emulator into a scoobyecu adaptor board with 2 8bit cables.
The problem is, you need to see where the map is being accessed to know what to change. You can do this either by select protocol, or memory access monitoring on the emulator. To do the latter you need custom software for it to be of any use, the Racelogic emulator can do this, it is £1475 +vat if you're interested.

Oh I see, shame. My Japanese is pretty ropey I have to confess.
Custom software... sounds like my sort of thing.
Is this information...

... available in English anywhere?

Paul's right. Babelfish it to find out. The translation is quite amusing at times too..
Working on some software now, but there's never enough time in the day to make progress on it and fit in a normal days work...

How long has Babelfish been speaking Japanese? Fantastic! I might even be able to read the cusco site now
