Question

Looking to do this over the weekend on my car.

Is there a drain tap?

Do i use soft water etc?

Which coolant is best (blue, green or orangey/red)

When i fill up the header tank with new coolant etc, is this done with the engine running, or do i fill it to the top with the engine off and allow it to fill up slowly etc, and then start the engine and carry on filling up as required?

When i changed the turbo etc etc, it was very straightforward etc, i'm just nervous of changing coolant for some unknown reason lol.

Thanks

Iain

Hi Iain,

Drain tap is at bottom of rad on the driver's side.

I just use normal water with coolant additive and water wetter, but you could use deionised water if you wanted. Our water isn't hard at all, so it's not a problem

Put the majority of the water in before you start the car, then let it drink it and keep topping up, but leave enough space in the header tank for the system to breathe. Don't fill it right up to the top.

Run the car, with the heater switch set to warm. Don't leave the blowers on though as it will take longer to bleed up. Once the car is up to temp (keep checking) check that your blowers blow warm then switch them off again.

Squeeze the bottom hose frequently to help pump water round and clear any air pockets.

Once the system seems full (not drinking any more), put the rad cap back on and let it pressure up.

Bottom hose should eventually come warm and after around 20 mins or so of running, the fans should kick in.

Once the fans stop, turn offf the engine, let it cool (for a good while) and then check and top up the level if necessary.

Think that's everything.

cheers

Rich

Nice one Rich , thanks for that.

Iain (can sort most things on a car, but has a nervous disposition when it comes to coolant changes :wierd: lol)
