Even though my battery is fine, I had trouble starting my '97 on Friday morning. I had to turn the engine for 14 times before it finally started and ran ok.

Has anyone else had similar trouble, if so, is this likely to be a regular thing during the cold winter months?

I occasionally have this problem (98MY UK Turbo), and have been led to believe it's something to do with fuel vapourisation (sp?) when the engine is switched off hot.
Of course, I could be completely wrong.

I had the same problem with my MY97 uk car. It happened a couple of times after sitting in the sun for over eight hours. Obviously this was only a problem in the summer, but I haven't had the same problem with my current car (UK MY99)

Are you parking your car in a heated garage??

I get this all the time on an sti5 - happens if I leave the car for more than a day and especially if its cold and wet (hardly any problems in the summer months)

I have had similar problems on other cars - always seems like the battery - but it was always cos I had changed the Air filter to a performance one- and when it gets damp/wet it seems to wreak havoc. I knew this was the case on my previous Cossie cos when I changes back to the standard filter on experimenting I had no problems

Have you put a performance filter on - does'nt seem to matter which type either if the plastic assembly stuff has been removed
