Cam belt tensioner
#1
I have just had my cam belt replaced at the three year service (37000 miles on the clock). They also had to replace the hydraulic cam belt tensioner as it had a small leak. Luckily I still had 2 days of warranty left!! otherwise a bill of £176 would be on my credit card.
Is this a common fault on a car of this mileage? How long should it last?
The cam belt cost £105 +vat for the part.

Hi
Dont know if it's a common fault but mine went two weeks after I bought my car.
Car is 95 and had 36,000 on.I was driving along a favourite road coming out of corner, put my foot down and all I got was coughs and splutters.Once I stopped it wouldn't restart so it was taken to the dealers where they diagnosed the faulty tensioner and the fact the belt had jumped one tooth.
All I say is thank god for warrenties!!
