Question

hi,

Has anyone got any concrete evidence of
the difference that an induction kit makes
performance wise, preferably a Blitz.

I've heard claims of 8Bhp is this true?!

Basically the reason I ask is that I have
had one fitted and am not sure of the difference...yeh the car is louder, throttle
seems a little perkier but the torque seems
to have vanished. I understand that this
may be due to the car running lean.

Have any of you guys experienced this lack
of torque? I disconnected the battery for
an hour or so in the hope of an ECU reset
taking place. The car does appear a little
better but I'm still not 100% happy.

This is driving me nuts...the standard
air box might go back on.

comments?

Matt

Matt.
What year is your car?
Blitz kits have been causing problems with the MAF sennsors on MY99's-on.
I've had no probs with my K&N kit, and my car shows the highest gains on the rollers of any UK car with a standard ecu.

A run on the rollers will help see if it's running lean anyway, so it may be a good excuse to go to PS.

8bhp sounds a 'little' optimistic

I would not suspect there to be a large difference between

Blitz/HKS/K&N or Pipercross. I have had all on current and previous cars - the power gains are always spurious - and swapping and doing numerous runs would be expensive and potentially meaningless due to non-fixed parameters effecting the rollers

HKS looks the nicest but is very expensive
Blitz sounds the nicest on a Scoob, as I'[ve had the Blitz and the HKS - HKS is quieter

thanks for all the info guys. The standard box went back on yesterday. The car *definately* has more grunt and torque, plus I can hear the turbo spin up rather than the hurricane under the bonnet :O)

I suspect the car may have been running lean, even if it didn't I think the noise
would have got on my nerves after a bit...perhaps...although it was yummy

Red face

Lets get one thing clear,

ANY INDUCTION KIT FITTED INCORRECTLY COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE A MAF FAILURE, K&N, Pipercross, Blitz, HKS whatever...........

The failure isnt down to the Blitz filter itself, but more like the incorrect installation...........

Why oh why.............

sunil,

I have heard the horror stories and made absolutely sure that the maf/air filter wasn't going anywhere. I couldn't move
the thing!

hi matt

breathing modes make the car go lean ie air filters , exhaust etc the power band for the the subaru engine seem to be between 6-8%co above that you loose power below that you also loose power and risk detonation. so what if you car was running lean 6% co to start with ? just a thought. air filter may make more of a difference if the car is running rich than lean? i think.
next time you are at a rollers check the CO

again i could be talking rubbish again

Question

thanks for the info. I've haven't been on the rollers yet! Just out of interest how is
the co adjusted?

Oh, with the standard box the car pulls
like a train, does the suggestion that it
may be running lean mean it'll go even
quicker ;o)

My last Scooby was an MY98 on an R plate. I had a Mongoose full system and a Pipercross Cone filter. When I took it to Well Lane to have it chipped they did a power run and it came out at 237bhp - Superchip took it to 278bhp.
I had no problems with the car at all and it was still pulling you into the seat at 130mph.

did you have the car before the pipercross
and exhaust, i.e. so you could see/feel the
differences each mod made?

adding my magnex certainly made a difference
and the blitz did too, but not what I expected. Basically it lost a ton of torque
low down but pulled a bit harder further up
the rev range...but only a bit.

What sort of difference did the pipercross
make and is it noisy? the blitz is *really*
noisy!
