Sorry for starting a new thread, but i'm after answers to the following questions:-

1. Does fitting a SS Downpipe cause major issues with the Subary warranty?

2. I have a SS Back box / ITG filter. What noise increase should I see by fitting a SS Downpipe

3. Will my car still pass an MOT's emission regulations with a Group A SS downpipe fitted.

4. What BHP increase should I expect to see. I'm currently getting 242bhp as recorded by Power Engineering. Will this also increase the torque?

5. Are Subaru dealers happy to fit these?

6. Is the Group A downpipe the only downpipe that Scoobysport offer.

7. Scoobysport also mention that this downpipe is used for competitions - does this mean its generally not road legal.

8. Will I stil have a CAT?

9. As anyone had any major problems since fitting one?

Thanks
Mark

Technically your engine warranty is void as removal of the main cat (in the DP) constitutes this

2. I have a SS Back box / ITG filter. What noise increase should I see by fitting a SS Downpipe

You wont "see" any noise, but you might "hear it"

3. Will my car still pass an MOT's emission regulations with a Group A SS downpipe fitted.

Who knows, depends how you line their palms with gold . Probably not, but some say cars can pass on centre cat alone if warmed up!?

4. What BHP increase should I expect to see. I'm currently getting 242bhp as recorded by Power Engineering. Will this also increase the torque?

You wont see any power/torque increase on the rollers. You will see (if u have a boost gauge) /feel your turbo spin up MUCH quicker!

5. Are Subaru dealers happy to fit these?

Depends, who is your dealer/which area are you in?

6. Is the Group A downpipe the only downpipe that Scoobysport offer.

Yes, 2.5inch and 3inch bore. 2.5 best for road use.

7. Scoobysport also mention that this downpipe is used for competitions - does this mean its generally not road legal.

No. It is fine.

8. Will I stil have a CAT?

Do you own a cat/dog/mouse/goldfish?. Yes, you will still have a CAT in the std centre section.

9. As anyone had any major problems since fitting one?

Well, some people cite it as the primary cause of divorce and Dave T-S says it gives him premature ejaculation but everyone else seems fine. I have had no problems whatsoever. You might find your lambda is cross threaded into your original downpipe when you try and remove it though.

Thanks
Mark

Your welcome

Cool

Just to make things easier, you don't have to worry about the MOT if you still have a warranty, and you don't have to worry about the warranty if you are already needing MOT's .

Question

Chuckster,

I'm not so much concerned about my warranty, however within 11 months I will need an MOT. So will it pass??? I have read various articles on the BB that say it will and it won't. Is there a definitive answer to this question or does it vary from car to car???

Are there any other suppliers who provide a downpipe with a "performace" cat???

Regards
Mark.

When I had the downpipe done, I kept the centre cat and the emissions were still perfect i.e. MOT pass.

Mark,

Make sure you take an extended (i.e. more than just 5 minutes) test drive in a car with the same mod to see if you find the noise level acceptable!!!

Oh, and take your Other Half too!!!

Speaking from experience,

Question

I think that I might go for the Scoobysport Downpipe... Has anyone had any problems with the Scoobysport downpipe??

Has anyone on this BB got a Terzo with a Scoobysport downpipe?? If so how did you rate this modification??

Does anyone know any lenient MOT stations who are subject to quite a few modified Impreza's in and around Leicester / Coalville area?

Your comments are appreciated..

Thanks
Mark

No probs i know of with the SS DP, its a fantastic bit of kit

It will work very well with your MY98, Bajie has a Terzo (not that the fact that its a Terzo makes any difference to the end result)

Gimme 100 quid cash and i'll tell ya where to get an MOT

Has anyone had a Graham Goode downpipe fitted???

If so what are they like (similar to the scoobysport)????

What power increase do you see??

They do a downpipe with a performance CAT fitted. Will this ensure that a car with a standard centre section and a SS Backbox will meet emissions regulations during an mot??

Thanks
Mark.

I'm going to wade in here with my size 13's and throw my opinion in.

Mark D,

When I had My CAV GSI. It was the non cat 157BHP engine. The later catted cars came in with 150BHP. Most people said this was down to the cat. I don't know wether (sp) Vauxhall made any other changes for the lower output.
My understanding at the time was because the matrix in the cat increased back pressure, slowed the path of the gasses and therefore reduced power.
I had a full SBD Stainless system fitted, the car then revved quicker and did better in the upper rev ranges. Mainly because the exhaust was optimised.

For the next bit bare in mind what I have said and that of Sunil.

My dad once had a Dolomite 1850 Sprint (still quick today!)

Reved and flew to 4500k. After that it hit the perverbial brick wall. He put on a full exhaust system. It then flew to the red line.

All the exhaust did was allow the gases to escape quickly so it didn't stifel the engine.

The engine still produced circa 130bhp with the standard exhaust or the modified exhaust.

I will agree with Sunil that the SS DP will not give any extra power, only the illusion that it does because it allows for faster turbo spool up.

I hope this helps and I have not covered what other people have said.

P.

PS. Sunil quick motor you have there SS Exhaust sounds nice even when my radio is on.

I had the Scooby Sport downpipe and backbox on my MY99 and it sounded and performed great. Keeping the standard centre section will stop it from sounding too loud (depends on taste) and will give you a reasonable chance of passing an MOT. My dealer would have fitted the lot for me, but I got Pete Croney to do it for me @ Scooby Sport. I just had to buy it after having a test drive in Pete's car.

Go on, you know you want to .

As a slight aside, My MY00 (full SS from turbo back) got vote of loudest car at the recent Herts/Cambs meet and deeply impressed the Evo6 following me!!!

Sith, note when my car was quick it wasnt me driving it....LOL,

Just to clarify,
No Downpipe will show power/torque gains on a dyno but they all should offer a real improvement on the road.

I now remember your comment on your for sale add - 'Driving Miss Daisy use only'.

I was expecting your driver (chaufer?) to boot it past me. I had a great chuckle at the time.

Thumbs up

......Hence the thumbs up gesture. Fun wasn't it.

I don't suppose you can remember which gear was used? I'm curious. As your car seemed to catch me v quickly when I eased of and slowed.

Moments like that make life more entertaining.
