Rattly Turbo ??
#1
I've got a Scoobysport D/P and Backbox with a std centre section (to quieten things down a bit!)
There's a constant 'rattling' when the turbo is spinning that sounds like loose bearings, especially around 2500 - 3000 revs and on coming off the gas after accelerating.
Can anybody tell me what this is (and how to cure it)????

Hi Jason,
On my last Scooby I put on a full Mongoose system and since that I had to live with the heat shield around the turbo rattling. I could not totally get rid of it.
There is also a heatshield underneath the turbo as well I would check the two have all the bolts in place and that they are tight.
Scotty.

Yes, I get this too.
Have just had a downpipe fitted and I now notice around 3,500+ a rattle which is quite annoying. I guessed this was the heat shield as I had heard about it. It sounds (perhaps just mmy mind playing tricks) that it is getting louder - well it certainly is more noticeable with both windows down...
I will get it checked when I next need it serviced which is in a few days.

I had this! I thought it was the heat shield but it was checked and it still rattled. It to started off quiet and got louder. After 2 months the car started to pass smoke from its exhaust when standing static in traffic. I had the downpipe removed and the fins were catching on the inside of the turbo as the bearing was loose. Bad news is, it is intermitant and the Subaru garage refuse to change the turbo unless they can prove the car is loosing oil.

I'VE CURED IT !!
After spending much time checking the heat shields underneath and around the turbo - it turned out to be the spring bolts between the D/P and Ctr section. The washers were rattling as the pipes flexed.
Nothing that a small amount of CopperEase won't fix
Cheers
