Am I using too much oil?

I've done a search on oil levels and usage and a lot of you guys are saying that your cars dont use a drop. However, my car has had to be topped up about half a litre in the last five thousand kilometres (3000 miles?).
Apart from a few very minor leaks from gaskets, the car does not blow any smoke when idling, taking off or overrunning etc.
It has blown smoke twice on startup but this was in winter and only after pasting.
It starts easy, runs good and has loads of power.
I use Mobil 1.
Oh yeah...the cars an MY94. The only mods are 3 inch exhaust from the turbo back and a rampod with foam element.

I am experiencing the same level of oil use. I have an oil catchment tank fitted that collects all the oil and water that would normally be passed back through the engine.
I would say that I empty a quarter of a litre from the tank every month (1500-2000 miles) end top the oil up with about same.
As yourself, I have no visable oil leaks.
Two different tuners/service centres have looked and passed it of as normal for my car.

I think that consumption is entirely normal. I've got a MY99 and have never topped it up though.
Just to put your figures into perspective, a colleague of mine has a 2.4 Audi A6 that uses a litre every 500 miles, and they say that is normal as well.....

As long as oil usage is within approx limits outlined by Subaru you should be ok....A good indicator is plug condition....a ******* to get at for a quick look, but maybe worth it if really concerned.....don't Know off the top of my head what the oil consumption suggested by Subaru should be,but 1000miles/500mls if driven hard doesn't seem too excesive to me......I've hard experiences of standard "cooking" engines in things like Mondeos,Peugot 306's etc using oil the entire time they were driven....but it was within limits and never adversly affected performance etc....
