There is not normally any reason to check the map in the ECU, and short of downloading it to check, the ECU will appear to the subaru diagnostic equipment completely normal. Therefore, the only way that Subaru will detect that you have an ECUTEK is if they look for it, not under normal servicing.

However, it is not a warranty approved mod, so if they (dealer/subaru UK) decide to look for it and they find it has been done, before carrying out a warranty repair, then you are stuffed. You'll probably get away with it, but is it a risk you want to take? Only you can answer that.

Under EU law, the warranty will only be void on parts directly effected by the mod - i.e. in this case engine, gearbox etc. They can't refuse to pay up on e.g. an electric window motor failure just because you have an ECU swap.

The only way to get a warranty approved ECUTEK is via the latest version of the PPP. This will give ~265bhp in conjunction with backbox and de-cat centre section, but costs ~£1600.

just had a little chat with a guy at ecutek, seems very helpfull, anyway he informed me if i take out my ecu, and send it to them they can remap it to improve the bhp to something like 250bhp with a remap of the original ecu, and then send it back to me i simply refit it. Apparently it improves the performance a great deal and fuel econ, and its not to expensive i read great things about ecutek but i wonder about warranty issues?? i was told that as all the safety features of the original ecu are kept in tact that should any issues arise under warranty, then it wouldnt be a problem as its not possible to tell its been changed, can anyone confirm this for me before i go ahead, does anyone know of anyone having this done and having any problems??

many thanks
oh and nice board

The Ecutek is a great piece of kit, which can either be custom mapped (ie to the car) or can be programmed with a standard 'off the shelf' map, which is what you're talking about.

The downside is it will bugger your warranty good and proper if you get found out m8

It must be simple for Subaru to detect a different map to the original or am I missing something?

i have an ecutek3 on my my01 with a full decat & am getting around 290bhp, it was remapped to the car & although the increase in raw torque are massive it is still quite spikey & doesnt run as smoooth as before, but for the money it is the most powerful mod youcan do. for your monehy though why not get the downpipre done first though, for a small investment you will notice a major difference mate

trying to avoid warranty issues mate, sounds good, if it was out of warranty would be going for ecutek3 and decat, and so on, but trying to avoid that for now. I was told by ecutek themselves there is no way subaru can tell by just putting it on their computer? just need to verify if this is right or just bull****?

I would suspect that to be the case as many of the ecutek maps can be switched off very easily when going in for servicing etc.

I would of thought the normal Subaru diagnostic equipment would not be designed to detect if a remap had been done. But what would be stopping a Subaru rep' with a laptop coming along to check?

thanks for that good reply, i have been lead to beleive that the ppp on my01 is nowhere near 265 more like 245-248 on the my01, especially as its starting of at 218 and not the usual 225 of the later 02,03 my's. Dont see much on the dyno print outs either to answer either way. Ecutek seems easier way to go also the fact i have already bought the back box, and dont want to fork out again, so would be basically paying 1600pounds for the same product! + a little induction extra

thanks

Select monitor cannot 'see' an EcuTek remap. However, even the worst dealer should notice the power hike and guess something is up. Map switch can give you the ability to return the ecu to standard settings for when others are driving the car.

I've just started doing WRX's here, and it's a good package with a decent hi-flow cat....just the teeny injectors limit things

Richard
