Slow clutch pedal
#1
A few months ago I had my gearbox removed to replace a faulty 1st gear (the fault had been there from new)I am now beginning to notice that when changing gear under hard acceleration the clutch pedal is slow to come back up. There is no slip in the clutch itself it is just the slow pedal action. Is the clutch hydraulic or cable?? I also get clutch judder when pulling away. my car is a 98 sti IV saloon with no track days or standing starts!! Any help greatly appreciated!

Can't offer any diagnosis, but my MY95 WRX does the same. It judders on pull-off and the pedal does come back up slowly, but only when I 'boot' it (therefore often) It sort of sticks about an inch or so from the top momentarily.
Hope someone knows

Don't boot it if you don't want to drive all the way home in second.
There is a cup on the side of the clutch plate which pulls the plates apart when the pedal is deppressed. I have a MY94 WRX, same symptoms as described by Leigh.
This cup pulled right off the plate, plates colapsed together, and the pedal just hit the floor. During this the push rod was forced out of the slave cylinder. (Clutch is hydraulic, James.)
Cost me a grand.
Good luck

Aero,
Thanks for the reply,I don't tend to push hard in 1st gear and it tends to happen more in 2nd & 3rd. Does this slow pedal mean a fault with the hydraulics or the cups you are referring to?
