Denz,

Mine goes in next week for the mongoose downpipe fitted to the S/S mid and backbox, Ive been told this will produce loads of flame outs so if you see a object shooting round Harlow with flames coming out the back its not air frances concorde it'll be me

SeanT,

I suggest you check with Pete Croney as to the warrantee situation. It's 25years to the first owner, but this may well not cover you.

I recently asked if he would continue the "full warrantee" on my Scoobysport/Brembo "Group A" Brake kit if I were to sell it on to someone else, he told me that he would not.

ive already got scooby backbox and Paul of SS said that if i get SS mid and downpipe (there mid section is now stainless steal one ) i should get flames! and to realy make sure get the ECU remapped! He seems like a nice bloke nd knows his stuff.

I probably wont get the ECU done (Cost ) but the centre sectiona and downpipe i will! Is this the best way of doing it?

he didnt seem to rate the mongoose downpipe! but it could just be one mans opinion!

ARRGGHHH what should i do

P.S.

SeanT

Nice wheels

Most cat-less exhausts will produce flames, (and a few with cats- Moray ) so you have a wide choice.
Buying it purely for the flames is a bit odd though? Still, whatever turns you on!
My Scorpion system produces lovely deep blue flames for some reason, but I'm not really that bothered...honest!

Also having a blow off valve that vents to the atmosphere instead of back into the system like stock will make them rich on throttle off.
Mate of mine did the blowoff and next thing .. FLAMES!!!

Cool!

Yup,

Couple a decat straight thru exhaust system with a non-recirculatory dumpvalve and your fueling will run so rich you will get flame outs, pops and bangs every five seconds.

At least I did...was getting 2 foot flameouts at one point.
One word of warning though, your fuel consumption will go thru the roof. I was getting about 5mpg when driven hard with this setup.

OK time for the Thicko questions.

Do Flameouts destroy the baffles in the Exhaust system ??

Secondly, what is in the standard down pipe that stops flamouts ??

Cheers

Cheers.

I assume then all I need is a De-Cat-ed front pipe to add to the HKS drain pipe that is currently on the car, Will any Front pipe fit a HKS system or do I need a HKS jobbie ??

Cheers

Question

Serious question: can you get flames if you are gunning the throttle when stopped, e.g. at traffic lights? Sometimes pedestrians cross the road between stationary cars. Is there a risk you could set fire to their trousers or burn their legs? I can just see the headline in the Sun: KILLER JAP CAR TURNS TODDLER TO ASH: Hague Says Name and Shame the "Scooby" cult . Think what that'd do to our insurance premiums

David,

You will be wanting a word with Moray. He is fairly well known to reduce small children to tears with his stationary light and sound show

Don't think he has actually scored any incinerations yet though

Question

Can anyone help? I want to replace the front section of the exhaust (downpipe inc. cat and second box which I thought was another cat but apparently isn't) but I don't know which make to go for. I've got a few hundred quid to waste before the missus wastes it for me! My priorities are more power, more noise is a bonus (I bet the neighbours love me when I come home late and sit there letting it cool off!) and flames are strictly optional. I've already got a dump valve which vents to atmosphere so these shouldn't be a problem! Will it really kill my mpg? It's giving 22mpg with the dump valve, jap exhaust and blitz induction kit.

Any help/advice gratefully received!

Leigh

Leigh.

Scorpion do one of the most cost-effective upgrades, and whilst there's may not be as 'flashy' as some others they seem to work well on my car!
Call Mark at TYRES NORTHAMPTON for prices on 01604 588599.

Falkland pipe - £170 (with SIDC discount). Better power/torque increases than scorpion/some other dps as it has a full sized appature, scorpion, and the standard pipe are half blanked off. Scoobysport is almost identical to the Falkland pipe, and near enough the same cost.

MPG should get better with a downpipe, cats suck energy! With a larger appature as well (even less resistance) I now get an extra 30-50 miles per tank full!
