i can't work out whats going on. MY93 WRX this morning was jumping from 300rpm - 1500rpm and had no acceleration, kept my foot flat to the floor and then once i got to 5000rpm everything kicked in and went back to normal. switch car on tonight and drove home with perfect boost and acceleration until i came to a set of traffic lights and the idle went all lumpy and the car would hardly pull away, i needed to keep my foot floored until the car reached 5000rpm then something seems to clear then it works fine.

Whats going on?

Guess it could be a few things but the MAF is a common cause of rough running problems, in which case it needs attention asap as a duff MAF can result in weak mixture, det then blown engine !

Has someone swapped your engine for a Honda Civic Type R...?!

Seriously though, I'd avoid flooring it to get it to 5k rpm, until you know what the problem is. Have you got any gauges?

They are 50 to 60ish yes..

No point changing just two mate.. believe me do all four...

Some dealers were selling all four for £200.. try GGR as they might be cheaper...

Easy to fit yourself if you wanted to save the labour.

Yea totally agree with JGM - I had a MY93 Wrx which was suffering with the sort of problems you mention. Removed and inspected all 4 coil packs - 2 were definitely dodgy so decided to renew all 4. Will cost ya a bit (£200) but once done the car was so much better for it. Kept the 2 alright looking c.p's as spares

I had a miss on one cylinder on cold mornings like you describe..

So I bought one coil pack and figured I would switch it until I found the fault..

Fitted that one and the car drove some much better on boost and off boost.. but cold start miss fire was still there!

So I replaced the other three and boy did it shift.. ran so much smoother too..

They tend to wear out about 6years / 90000miles due to the heat they endure I think.
