Thumbs down

Just had a H & S downpipe fitted and I seem to be lacking power.... cars which would not normally pose a problem now seem to be embaressing me on a regular basis (two times today).
The hiss/whoosh from the engine is also now very loud... any ideas anyone.
(I draw the line at a 2.5 vectra making me look stupid)
....flame suit on...

Are all the hoses to intercooler fitted/secured properly?
You dont normaly have to remove intercooler to fit a down pipe but what if they did? Just a thought as from what you desribe, it sounds like your losing boost presure from some where.
Check around for any loose hose clips and asociated air leaks.
It should pull better with a H&S DP no doubt.
A 2.5 Vectra is about 160bhp for gauld sake

update on latest:

Paul from extreamscoobys has informed me that most likely fault is overboost, causing the ecu to nasty things.

I Have to fix a 1.25mm regulator, £6-00

I am suprised no-one else with a STI8 has not had this problem..

Pete Croney (Scoobysport) recommends that the boost restrictor is changed to prevent overboosting.I've a few questions which you can hopefully answer:-

Did you retain the secondary cat in place?

Was the H&S downpipe a good fit?

Did you fit the downpipe yourself?

H&S can apparently supply a Sportscat version which I'm tempted to go for (STi 7) as I don't fancy having to swap out when MOT comes around. I hope you get better results when it comes back from the garage. Have you done any other Mods in conjunction?

cheers
Andy

Hi Andy,

The only other part of the exhaust that is not standard is the back box, which I changed to a prodrive one earlier this year.

The DP went on like a dream, no problems (as far as I know because D H Cars fitted it for me)

Hopefully this will be the last of the problems, but I am thinking of getting a SECS 1004 to monitor anything and everything from now on!

now had the restrictor (1.25mm) fitted, car is going much better, (even though the mechanics said it felt no better)

The car is now giving 0.9bar at 6,000rpm. Is that correct? as I thought 1.2-1.35 was the norm for the 8?

any comments welcome
