Scott.T - Stopping ScoobyECU/ScubaChip<96 supply.
#1
Some of you already know this, as I let slip whilst waiting for my current batch of blanks to arrive. But this is just a quick post to let you know that I am halting my supply of ScoobyECU/ScubaChip<96 with immediate effect.
For those that don't know - all those invloved with the ScoobyECU/ScubaChip<96 project are enthusiasts and not 'businesses'.
I have a few bits of unfinished business with a couple fellow 'enthusiasts' who I have already emailed, but otherwise I will not be doing any more Pre96 ECU mapping work from now on.
The supply of genuine 27C1028 chips has all but dried up and are becoming ever more difficult to get hold of. I'm not sure when these devices officially became obsolete, but I suspect it was the early to mid 1990's. The devices I have been using of late were actually date coded 1987/1988, so this will give you some idea of how old the technology is.
They are listed on a couple of military 'obsolete' component suppliers web-site, but after contacting them the prices quoted per unit made them un-viable.
I have no doubt that the ScoobyECU adaptor will still be availble from David Wallis http://www.scoobyecu.co.uk and also a more personal mapping service will still be available from Paul Blamire (PAVLO).
My main reasons for packing this in, other then the availability of the genuine devices, are purely personal.
1. This project has caused alot of my spare time and evenings to be dedicated to it.
2. I have promised my wife that I would knock it on the head prior to Christmas 2003.
3. In the 1st quarter of 2004 we are expecting our 2nd child. This therefore will require me to spend alot more of my spare time looking after the new born along with entertaining my curreent 2 year old son (who's just managed to say Subraaru Imbprettsi). And between now and then there are a few houshold decorating tasks and bedroom swaps to undertake.
I'd like to take this oppurtunity to thank the 75+ enthusiasts that have shown an interest in this little project and who I personally have supplied remapped chips too.
May you all have many happy, slightly quicker then standard, miles motoring.
P.S I have 3 UK spec chips left running 14.5psi, which you may see on Ebay...this is my last ditch attempt to actaully make a bit of money on them
Cheers

I think you've made the right choice there. There's never enough time in the day to get everything you want done, is there.
And family is the most important thing you'll ever have.
BTW, I think the chip went obsolete in 96/97.
