FMIC - to mesh or not to mesh....
how much is a replacement IC or core + fitting?
how much is a sheet of mesh and a few hours fitting it?
I paid approx 40 quid for some decent mesh (stainless steel, 16swg, 10mm gap, woven) with edging strip and had it cut / welded by a local company. A couple of hours to fit both top & bottom guards and now feel a lot "safer" re stones etc.
the choice is yours plus if you hole the fmic while you're away somewhere, then you'll know what you'd wished you'd done
pic not really taken to show grilles but top one obvious and bottom one is in there - you'd have to cover a bigger hole I suppose...

Be careful of size of mesh, I appreciate you dont want any stones going through, but you are decreasing the surface area that the air can flow over, thus raising the cooler temp and the air within. So dont go for too finer a mesh.
I have seen some units fail due to lack of cooling of inlet air, creating higher than norm engine temps, hate for you to be one of the list.

Thanks for that advice,
I shall keep my eye on it....
The photo makes it look finer than it is,
but it's suprising how many stone dents appear in the radiator
I shall keep my eye out for some of the larger stainless steel mesh and replace it.
Cheers
