Question

Hi All,

I've noticed a strange noise a couple of days ago, which seems to come from the engine bay area. It occurs when the engine is cold, and when blipping the throttle (not hard revving).
It sounds like some kind of metallic vibration noise, and only happens breifly just before the engine returns to idle.
I've had a quick look, but when the engine reaches operating temp it disapears.
I'm hoping that someone has maybe had a simmilar problem in the past and can point me in the right direction.
I don't know how long it has been happening, 'cos when I'm inside the car with windows/doors shut, it can't be heard.

Hope someone can help, Thanks,

Richard.

You may fing that the noise is the heat shield. I understand that the shield gets very hot and if you drive through water the mounting points can split. See the SIDC FAQ for details of getting the shield rewelded and sited further away from the hot areas.

I found a similar thing at certain revs on change-up. Check out my thread here as it may be relevant...
