GUYS I OWN A MY97 WRX STI, AND I HAVE REALISED THAT IF I REV THE ENGINE BETWEEN 4000 - 5500 RPM THERE IS A TAPPET NOISE COMING FROM THE RIGHT HAD SIDE OF THE ENGINE (DRIVERS SIDE), ITS ALWAYS THERE,

WHAT CAN IT BE??,

AND HOW CAN I CURE IT??

SAFEST AND POCKET FRIENDLY WAY OUT, BECAUSE I'M NOT IN A FINANCIAL SITUATION TO AFFORD A REBUILD.

COST??

CHEERS

Make sure the heatshield isn't cracked before you start ripping the engine apart. (though that's more buzzing...)

Is it worse when cold and goes away when you warm up ?

Thay may be quite correct,But i think i would get a second opinion,It will cost nothing....Sound a little suspect if it only starts to come on at those revs though....Good luck...Kev.

A 95 will have hydraulic lifters? I would definately suspect these if the mileage is fairly high.

I'VE BEEN TOLD ITS NOT PISTON SLAP, THIS CHAP WHO REBUILDS ENGINE, SAID IF I LEFT IT UNTIL IT SEAZED THE ENGINE THE BILL WOULD GO HIGHER....AS MUCH AS 1700 POUNDS.

I'M GOING TO SEE RICHARD HENRY, SUBARU SPECIALIST, SEE WHAT HE HAS TO SAY.

THE CHAP WHO I BOUGHT IT OFF DID'NT EVEN KNOW ABOUT THIS KNOCK, AND DROVE IT TO WORK AND BACK!!

DUNNO IF ITS SAFE TO DRIVE THE SCOOBY.
