Question

Out of curiosity I checked the Read Memory mode on my MY96 WRX this morning. It came up with Error Code 45 - Pressure sensor, Pressure exchange solenoid valve. I have not noticed anything wrong with the way the car is running. Is there anything to worry about?
Or is this just some wiring fault?

When you turn on the ignition the pressure exchange solenoid operates once to ensure that atmospheric pressure is present in the map sensor. The error code is probably due to an incorrect map sensor reading at diagnostic time. Check the solenoid is working by lifting the bonnet, wind the drivers window down so you can turn on the ign from outside the car. The pressure exchange sol is the brown one on the strut top (drivers side) next to the map sensor, when you turn the ignition on it should click once only. Dont mix it up with the boost control solenoid which is in the same area. The pressure exchange one is brown (darkic=sh) in a black frame.

If thats ok then the map sensor could be contaminated with oil.
