I have an R-Spec Turbo Timer fitted to my MY93 WRX, it was imported with the timer fitted.

What is the ideal run-on time??
Obviously this will change depending on how hard the car has been driven, but roughly what should it be?

The Timer has an auto function, but after a hard run, it reckons 9mins to cool engine!

Has anyone got an R-Spec Timer `cos Im after some instructions for the other functions, or does anyone have a contact for R-Spec.

I've got an auto set TT that came in with the car from Japan. I'm not sure what make it is though- I'll see if I can find out tomorrow. If it is an R-spec I can tell you what some of the buttons do.
9 mins! I thought mine was being outrageous when it asked for 5 mins.
I'll post again if I can find out what make mine is.
If it helps, Subaru reckon 1 minute after "hard highway driving" to let the blower stop spinning. Depends on your interpretation of hard driving I suppose.
I reckon 2 minutes max to let the turbo stop completely.

Cheers for that Did. Yeah 9mins....ridiculous.

However, I thought the purpose of a TT was to let the engine cool and avoid heat sinking into the oil and water, not to let the turbo slow down. Is this not the case??

Mine is silver with LCD screen in middle and 2 buttons at either side. If you cycle through the functions, you get stuff like TurbOff and things, very bizarra!!

The purpose of a turbo timer is to allow time for the turbo bearings to cool down. If after a hard drive you just turn off the engine the turbo bearings will be very hot and there will be no oil being delivered to cool them. The oil which is next to the bearing will "fry". When oil "fries" it can leave deposits which mean that less oil gets to the bearings leading to premature failure.

If you drive the last few miles at a moderate rate 1 minute should be enough to allow sufficient cooling. This is usually the time it takes me to put on the steering lock and get my junk together!

I used to leave my Vauxhall for 3 mins after a hard run (1.3 bar ish). Did over 65,000 miles with no problems so not far off IMHO

the one advantage with garaging your car, find key, get out, unlock garage, walk back to car, drive in, find stuff, eventually get out. Takes approx 2 mins I rekon, 1 if your fast.

best solution, get a garage!

Checked mine- cannot find a make doesn't sound the same though as mine is graphite coloured with 1 button either side of the display.
I generally give mine 2 mins, as this should be long enough to let it stop spinning and maintain good oil supply for while. As Doc says it really is about maintaining oil supply for lubrication and cooling purposes.

Robski - ...find key, get out, unlock garage, turn round to sound of screaming tyres as some low life drives your car away. The garage trick only works if your garage is in a nice part of the country

Its very nice place, as you've no doubt been told . I've got some relatives in some of the less nice bits of the country though (no, I'm not brave enough to start naming places).
