Question

just fitted a K&N Induction Kit to my MY97.
*spin spin spin spin .... ptchhhhhhh*

sounds nice. Has anyone tried modifying the remainder of the airbox assembly to allow in more air? or separately routing a duct pipe from elsewhere?

thoughts and experiences please.

Chris

You don't really need any more cold air in there. If I remember correctly a good conversation I had with Bob Rawle at the August dyno run, plenty of air is circulated around that area anyway. Just keep the original air feed duct and you will be ok.

Akira

Since your question specifically related to the volume of air, you won't get much, if any of an increase until you bypass the air flow meter.

Kind regards

Cool

Hi there...

What Gethin said is correct... once the car is moving there is no need to supplement the induction kit with any extra air ducting.. it has been proven that there is virtually no difference in intake temp between running the standard (ducted) air box and an induction kit.

You will notice a bigger increase at standstill where heat from the engine will raise the ambient temp of the air going into the induction kit.

Benny.. have you got dyno figures showing that simply removing the MAF (and not replacing any of the existing rubber ducting) will obtain a power increase (something more than 3 or 4 BHP). Its not worth ditching it for one or two (unless there is another reason to change to a VPC or Link).

just too fuel the fire a little more.
in Japanese Performance mag feature on GGR, it shows their bloody expensive version of the K&N induction kit. with this kit you get a red metal ... THING! which is supposed to direct the air flow to the filter cone.
has anyone, in a moment of madness *lol*, fitted the GGR kit with metal THING?
might fabricate one myself if it's worth it.

Cheers

Akira.

The red metal 'thing' does not come with the GGR induction kit as I understand it.
I rang them for the price of the intake and was told £170ish!!!!
'Goodbye', I replied.

Stef,

Goodbye! .. you must have been in an ultra polite mood for that response.

They must be having a laugh!

Cheers

p.s. Stef, as you hold the title of "Sideway's Stef" a.k.a. the cossie killer.
I am laying claim to the title of "Porche Pulveriser" after my latest traffic light exploits. (see Misc. - Whoosh .... See Ya!)

Hi, I had a K&N kit on a MY97 fitted by the previous owner, and the front air duct was also removed. I had fitted an air-scoop to the bonnet vent above it and also a heat shield isolating the unit from the rest of the engine bay. The idea, I think, is to increase air flow since the front duct is gone, but more importantly, to reduce heat soak, which the shield is doing quite effectively (by sense of touch, anyway). I was a bit worried about the effect of rain water getting in from the air scoop, but even though it does get in, the car is none the worse even in some really heavy rain. The only drawback so far is the uneven appearance, no scoop over the other bonnet vent.
