Yellow Scooby,
With the exception of the different blocks available: closed deck type. open type phase 1, open type phase 2, New age semi closed deck, all blocks are the same and are valid for any engine turbo / non turbo / STi etc etc.
There is a difference in the number of mounting bolts for the gearbox between phase 1 and phase 2 but given that you need the right block for the right year the above holds good that any block is valid for an STi.
And until you pull the pistons out of ANY engine you cannot be sure of what spec it is. Heads are easily changeable as are RED manifolds and many a crafty breaker knows exactly where to buy red crackle paint...............
STi cams and valves differ to standard but to the naked eye you will not be able to distinguish either from the other.
If its got a good block and it's not leaking oil water then it's OK
