Clutch saga
#2
I had my clutch changed on my 95 WRX RA at a reputable (?) Subaru import
dealer a week ago last Friday. They managed to get the job done before I
went away for the week.
Anyway......over the weekend I drove up to some friends in Cambridgeshire
and then on to when I got there I started to notice a knocking noise which
seemed to come from around the handbrake area when pulling off in first
gear.
I first thought it was something in the car but it wasn't. The knocking
noise was getting worse so stopped and called someone out (not that easy on
a Sunday evening in the middle of nowhere). When the mechanic arrived and
jacked the car up it became apparent that the garage who changed the clutch
didn't do up the bolts which hold the middle prop-shaft bearing/clamp to the
underside of the car....nor had they put some of the exhaust rubbers back
on!! This was causing the propshaft/clamp/exhaust to bang around.
The two bolts holding the clamp on were only held in by about one turn of
thread and they would have probably come out all together if I had driven
any further - The consequences of the clamp coming off all together don't
bare thinking about
BAS**RDS......When you have just paid out 500 quid for a clutch you expect
the work to be done properly.
