Question

What Oil is recommended for the first service? i.e. do you straight for your fully synthetic 10-50 or is it better to go for a semi synthetic or very good mineral oil?
I only ask cos after I had my last engine rebuilt the tuner (approx 30 years race engine building) said people move to fully synthetic too quickly, and that for approx 10K after the first service a small amount of running in is still taking place. He rekons if you go straight to synthetic you never really run in fully, hence not gaining full power. Anyone heard anything similar?

I've read the same info written by MRT Australia. I am also very concerned my STI has done 8000 kms now and the local agent recommended I use full-Synthetic since 1600 kms service!

Can someone please shed some light into this? Have I damaged my engine or is the agent correct? Should I switch back to non-synthetic again?

Cool

When I build engine .... the oil will be mineral base for the first 1/2 hour engine running. Then I flush it and replace with the same oil type and new oil filter.
1000km .. I will check the oil colour and replace if needed.

I will only used 100% synt. after 5000km.

Reason .. mineral oil is good for bedding in the new component.... and cheap too.

While running in the engine ... for the first 1000km ... we do it for them. Boost is set at 0.6bar and 3500RPM max.

Boost and RPM will be increased gradually and at 5000km ... will be running at 0.8bar.

The rest is up to the owner.

Seraph - Did U send Ur car back to the dealer?? Cos there is some oil leak the other day ... better do it quick.

Cheers..

Interpro put in Magnetec - whatever this is - said it did not really matter what type as long as it was semi decent. I think this is fully sythetic.

Is this crap stuff - cost about £5 per litre.

I used to put in semi synthetic in my modified Cossie - cos it was so much cheaper than synthetic stuff - did not cause any problems
