Unhappy

I too have an STiII and agree that the 'box is notchy - think its normal. I also have to contend with a buggered synchro on 3rd, so will have to slot in 3rd that much more gently. Unless I can get a later model g'box *unlikely* I'll live wiff it.

Being new to impreza ownership I wonder if I could obtain some advice.I have just bought a 1995 standard WRX and whilst changing down the gears at fairly high revs the gear box feels very notchy!.It is very smooth going up the gears. Is this a characteristic of the impreza gear box or is it quite normal.Or shall I put my warranty into operation.Any advice would be appreciated.

If you have an aftermarket warranty then it is "mechanical breakdown" and they won't even consider it till it breaks. Even then you'll have a fight on your hands.

I have an STi II and my box is knotchy as well, I think that it is a characteuristic of the car.

Malique .. your g/box is a RA type. Very close gearing and running with 4.4 Final Drive. Anyway... 3rd gear gone??? Hmmmm..need a rebuilt???
Do check with Subaru agent... The gear box should be smooth change up and down. Problem might arise if U have a short stroke kit with your car.... I hate the short stroke.

Malique- Try and check with your mechanic around your area to get a quote for g/box rebuilt and strengthening. If U ever need one..hahaha.

DYNT - aha. aha.ya ya ya ya ya.
BTW my 'box isn't an RA..I get approx. 35 km/h per 1000rpm in top. I think the RA ratios will clock speeds more like 30km/h per 1000rpm. I will get my 'box rebuild by your skilled soft gentle hands and pay u in 60 monthly unequal installments

Malique!

Really.... You have been abusing your car?

Short stroking it....Slotting it.in third, (it would feel a bit loose if you were third) You've Buggered it....and now you want to do the honest thing by it and you want to live with it.

Very Noble I'm sure.

Mike.
