Question

How do all,
Is it a good idea to put a 57i induction kit on a MY00. I have read on several threads that it sometime nacks up the MAF. A mate of mine has one of these kits on his MY98 Turzo, and has had no probs. Any advice welcome.

Cheers Paul.

The K&N 57i is about as reliable as they come - hovering somewhere around the same point as the standard setup if you ask me
The problem with the MAFs is they are very sensitive to vibration. It's often said that the damage occurs at fitting rather than with use (except for the filters that use gunk/filters that don't actual filter...)
Keep a note of AFR if possible, and certainly idle problems/mysterious increases in performance if AFR is not possible. These are signs of the MAF on the way out - and things to pay attention to whether you have an after-market filter or a standard one!

I think MAF's were an issue when it cost about £200+ to replace them. Now ppl have found that you can just replace the sender unit rather than the complete unit and housing making it about £80 to replace so in the unlikely event of failure with a 57i it's not gonna cost too much to fix anymore

Also worth noting is that the sensors on the MY98 are different (ie LESS fragile) than the MY00. The MY00 are notoriously fragile. On the up side, they have been improved and so if you did have to replace one, the replacement would stand a better chance of survival.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the replies. So as I understand it, its put the 57i on but keep an eye out for any erregularities it idle speed and any drops or big increases in performance.

Bit of a novice at this car lark, so I have plenty of questions.

Cheers Paul.
