MY99 centre section detail
#1
I have gone from MY99 standard to MY99 PPP and now have Magnex centre section. What are the differences in the centre sections has been asked before. Here is a pic of the three sections lined up for comparison. i.e. Standard catted/prodrive resonator aka STI/Magnex straight through centre.
As can be seen the resonated centre and the catted centre are visually identical apart from the numbers and letters stamped on as shown.
With magnex straight through centre and prodrive exhaust sound was amplified like this:
prodrive standard exhaust

I am still running standard catted downpipe. My apologies for pause before starting engine, but i am afraid it was a one man show so I had to start the laptop recording then start the car. However, i think the suspense builds up the experience nicely!
The laptop was positioned 2 feet back from and 1 foot below the exhaust tailpipe.

Can you give me a subjective opinion on the difference? The STI centre section I originally got with the PPP has rusted out along the pipe seam so I need a replacement. How much is the Maxnex jobbie? Is it better than the Scoobysport offering?

There is a difference, but not much.
The car is smoother. The low down torque seems to have increased slightly. Top end power seems to have increased slightly and the turbo picks up about 100rpm earlier.(it did this anyway when the exhaust was really hot.)
The exhaust is noisier but not overly so. It sounds as loud as the car ever was after a long run when the exhaust was really hot. (Does that make sense to you?)
The car does not surge as much when cold, if at all, so its definitely improved flow. Holds peak boost better.
I got mine from Graham Goode total cost delivered with vat was £76.74 www.grahamgoode.com
In my opinion worthwhile whilst still keeping your emisions legal.
