MY97 dump valve fault?
#1
My 97 has started making the strange mooing noise mentioned in the SIDC FAQ on dump valve leaks, but it's only at low throttle pressure around 70-80mph. I presume this is the dump valve.
Is this easy to fix or does it need replacing and if so how much will it cost?
thanks,
John

Yup- its almost definitely the dump valve, the oem item is a crappy platic non-serviceable item.
I think the oem MY98 ones are supposed to be better with regards leaks.
Alternately replace with an much better quality (compared to oem) aftermarket item - you can get alloy forge ones quite cheaply secondhand on scoobynet.
If you want the Ptssshh noise go for a VTA type otherwise keep a re-circulating type.
very easy to replace by the way - just a couple of jubilee clips.

John,
Follow the hose on the front right edge of the intercooler that does a right angles bend. It bends down under the intercooler and you'll see the dump valve on the end. Its a black plastic one with a similar sized hose returning to turbo and a thinner hose connecting to the manifold.

John,
Butty is spot on - I got a MY97 and replaced it with a VTA type, see pic for alternate fitting to the recirculating type(twisting pipe around so it lays on top as shown).
If fitting a VTA type you get a bung to block up the other pipe thats under the intercooler.
