is it possible for a knocklink to go from normal first green light to instant red without any others lighting, or is it as i suspect the KL or sensor are faulty (conditions were accelarating from 90-100 on a straight private road

Shouldn't be able to happen as the Knocklink uses a bargraph driver to control the LEDs, in order for one LED to light out of sequence either the LM3914 is faulty or a LED is being earthed by something.

Thanks for the reply andy, but thats as clear as dog **** in a blender to me mate, i presume the best way to test the leds is to tap near to the sensor, so what you are saying is that the leds between bottom green & red are potentially faulty??

No need for a hammer..
Large screw driver.. spanner but no need for a hammer..
check the bolt is done up tight whilst you are there..
Could it not be that you just didn't see the others?
It can flash up the scale and off so quick.
I get a reasuring tickle on the first led when I start the engine.. I know at least the sensor is still connected etc..

I have made an automatic knocklink test device using a cuckoo clock, every 15 minutes when the clock chimes a little man pops out and taps the block next to the knock sensor with his hammer and the cuckoo pops out of the scoop so I know it was a test and not real knock

Sounds like a quick det spike then.
Is it repeatable? Had you just been cruising? Many people notice a bit of det when first entering the danger zone after a cruise.
If it's just been remapped have a word with the mapper.
