Question

I'm looking to improve the spool-up time on my car - MY99, full decat, equal headers, TD05, Walbro fuel pump, fse reg. WOT in 4th produces 1 bar at around 3,800 rpm. What are the pros/cons of the Dawes solution? I'd appreciate any help/advice on this please!

Cheers

Greg

Your headers will probably loose you 2-300rpm in spool up, but you should be able to get better than that with ECU boost control.

I was getting 1 bar by about 3400 in 4th with the Link but had overboost problems in lower gears. I now get 1bar just before 3000rpm with an MBC, the only problem is that with the MBC you cannot profile the boost curve (without additional hardware).

I don't have tubular headers, but I do have a 2.25" uppipe.

I think Andrew just about answered it.
Dawes typically brings the spool-point down considerably, but is quite on/off - makes the car feel quicker, but the 'progressiveness' is lost. Depends what you want.

It also removes the safety boost-cut feature of the ECU, which may or may not be of concern. Fuel cut will, of course, remain, but this only protects against overboost, not sustained knocking (which the ECU will typically drop boost to half a bar if it detects).

Erm, I think that's about it

If you're not concerned about the removal of one of the safety nets (shouldn't be a problem if you have a KnockLink anyway, which is a good idea whatever...) then it's probably worth a go just to see if you like it - it's not a lot of money to throw away if you don't like it! Most people keep them

Thanks for your input. I did wonder what effect fitting a Dawes would have on ecu performance as they do seem a popular mod. I don't really want to take control away from the ecu, especially if there is a potential impact on safety! The car is due to be remapped again following engine rebuild so I'll see what options there are to improve spooling within the ecu.

Thanks again!!
