broke a vane on the md320
#1
It was running at 1.4 bar till 7000 rpm
sometimes it peaked in the mid range 1.5 a 1.6 bar
But the guys at turbodynamics say it is no Warrenty
In our opinion the failure of the turbocharger was caused by overspeed and/or overboost of the turbocharger. This has caused a premature blade failure on the compressor wheel assembly.
The Never told me what the max boost is
But when i told them what boost i was running the say
Max boost of the md320 is 1.4bar

Not the clearest of pictures, but looking at it, it would appear that the blade which has gone AWOL has hit the compressor housing, same with the "outward bent" blade.
The blade that has went AWOL also looks (but a better picture should tell) like it has happened due to something being ingested into the intake side.
I see it's a TD05 cover. Is it a TD core? or a VF core? This may indictae TD's comment on max boost pressure, though this may be due to compressor wheel fitted also.
Since it's not covered by warranty, can you take off the compressor housing and have a look inside to see what's went on?
On mine, i had several blades bent outward, but not broken. Odd thing though is the blades where they were bent, hadn't hit the compressor cover.
David Wallis had an MD321 i believe. Perhaps he may comment on differences between 320 and 321 if he knows?

MD321 was a bigger garret wheel in it.. more like the 18g wheel..
bit laggier, but flowed more.
md320 is td05 iirc
