What should my oil pressure be??
#1
Like my mate Pete says it depends on a number of things. My STi 6 will tick over between 27 when VERY hot and 35 on 05W30 oil but with Motul 300v 15-50 tick over is about 40. 4k rpm in the cruise and a thin oil is around 86psi and the Motul 90 psi. The thin oil probably runs cooler.
In the WRX tick over on 5-30 oil hot can be as low as 20 psi but more likely 25 and pressure in the cruise is around 78 psi.
The STi has a Roger Clark modified oil pump and the WRX is standard. As far as I know both engines are in VGC and providing you are not burning oil and the oil pressure has not deteriorated over a period of time then I do not think that the actual pressure is important.

I just fitted an oilpressure gauge to my car and am a bit concerned at the pressure. it is only showing about 40 psi on the gauge at idle, about 80 at moving. is this OK or should i be worried??

Idle sounds about right. Mine idles at about 2.7-3 bar (around 40psi)when warm. But it goes upto about 6.5+ bar (about 94psi) when accelerating so it 80psi sounds a little low. What oil are you using?

Yeah with u on that Harvey
I was talking to some of the NASCAR drivers a whilst back and most of them don`t use oil gauges at all. now u`d think if anyone needed an oil gauge of some shape/ size/ form or description it`d b them. Apparently they just use a red warning light hooked up to a pressure sensor which is set to a pre determined pressure.
BTW how u doin Harvey ? No heard from u 4 a wee whilst.
R u commin up to the McBig one at Knockhill next Sataurday?
