I've just bought a 2000 5-door turbo with 60,000 miles on the clock. Which is the most suitable engine oil to use? The car has a full service history although, looking through the records, it seems as though the brand of oil used has been varied. Any ideas about what's best?

Thumbs up

The one on here that seems to carry most favour is Castrol RS.

i favour silcolene pro 4 myself - goes in red - comes out red every 3k miles.

top stuff - as used by superbikes - about 30-35 quid a pop.

bought some yesterday in fact !

The favourites seem to be:-

Mobil1 15w50 fully synthetic Motorsport

Motul 300v

Castrol 10w60.

These are all fully synthetic oils

the user manual recommends 5W30 - is that just being conservative? It does also mention driving in snow and ice a lot.

Question

My Subaru dealer recommends Shell Helix Plus which is also Fully Synthetic.

Is this not right for standard Scoobs? Anyone else use Helix?
