Question

What are people's opinions on the Blitz FMIC kit for 'classic' Imprezas? I've got a HKS FMIC kit on back order, but have been informed I could have a Blitz kit very much sooner (no known delivery date for the HKS).

So... how good are the Blitz units? From what I know about them, there's not a lot of difference in core sizes.

If it helps, the specs of the car will be...
- MY00 with Original engine internals
- 550 injectors with uprated pump/regulator
- Gruppe-S headers
- Uprated turbo (not yet chosen)

Isn't the Blitz one the one where you have to bin the foglights?

Or is that Apexi?

Don't know, mate. Whichever it is - I won't be choosing that one. I've only just put the driving lights in!

I MAY be wrong here but I'm sure I've read somewhere that the pipework for the Blitz intercooler intrudes into the space occupied by the foglights and that they must therefore be removed.

I am ABSOLUTELY SURE there is at least one intercooler that does this and I have a funny feeling that the Blitz one does too.

This page suggests that it is the Blitz that requires removal of the foglights. I guess I won't be having one of those then! Well spotted, Rich. Thanks for the warning!

The search for a FMIC continues...

Ben,

I have some pics of the Blitz on a scoob if you want them e-mailing. I've not looked myself at the pics for a while but from memory i'd agree with Rich. May be worth looking at the AVO intercooler, it seems very well regarded in OZ.

Pace do a good FMIC but on their website it says it's only for mode;s up to 98. can't think off hand what the differences would be and why that kit wouldn't fit an MY00.

The good thing about the Pace kit is you don't have to chop your bumper but you DO need to swap your rad for their alloy one (which comes in the kit) which is a bit samll for my liking.

I'm not fussed about cutting the bumper - that doesn't matter too much. I would consider the Pace - in fact I like the fact that it has a short pipe length. To compensate for the "small" radiator, it does have some fairly beefy fans, doesn't it?

What about FMICs from AVO, MRT or APS?

I've seen the MRT one up close and it's an awesome bit of kit.

Pipework is much shorter than HKS ans IMHO better quality, as are the joining hoses that come with it.

You do pay for it though. It ain't cheap!

Can't remember the exact figures but the cooling effect of it is very significant. I remember being impressed anyway.

Try Wallace performance 01467 643954.
They do APS at least, if not the others.

APS is looking pretty good so far. Wallace do the APS FMIC for £899, and it retains use of the driving/fog lamps. Hmm... it comes in "stealth black". Schweet That'll look pretty good against DBM, I reckon.

Any UK suppliers of the MRT unit, for a comparison?

Goodo.
Remember you need an aftermarket air filter (eg cone type) with the APS.

Thumbs up

No problems - I'm already running a K&N induction kit. I had a look at Jap Innovations, but the MRT kit is >350 quid more than the APS.
