How does the WR Sport backbox rate against other upgrades?

Had one on a previous MY01 WRX. Gives back the burble to the new age cars without being too noisy inside, just about right IMHO. Same back box as fitted with PPP but with different tailpipe.
Go for it you will not regret it

I am interested in changing the backbox on my MY03 WRX, as the twin-peas just dont give enough burble for my liking.
When i took a test drive prior to buying my car, the demo had the WR sport backbox fitted and sounded quite nice, and looking on the prodrive site it claims a small gain in power, which sounded good to me, whilst leaving the warranty intact (i cant afford the whole PPP jobby) and dont really want to violate the warranty....
So i was wondering if anybody had any experience of this backbox and just how it compares to things like the magnex and whatever other ones there are.
Im not really in the market for shattering windows by the way, just a nice burble that it capable of turning heads if you know what i mean
Cheers all,
Neil.

BUT...
If you go for it (to keep warrenty) and get a PPP (which you'll want if you test drive one)... you get a free exhaust for the £1600
...so you've wasted your money.
IMHO save and wait for the PPP....i did!

Got WR on my 03' sounds 100% better than the std ex but as has been said still not quite there. Doubt that the performance is much changed and as long as you get it fitted by a main dealer there should be no probs with the warrenty.
Enjoy.
Enjoy.

Better sound though not at all noisy really, 3-4 bhp increase, warranty friendly, looks good, if you go ppp sell it on for £175 -£200 easily here so not too bad a hit.
I had one and would certainly consider one if not going ppp. Save yourself £150 and by a second hand one off the board and you cant go wrong really, easy to fit too.

the ppp back box and the wr sport box are nearly identical in deisgn however the wr sport back box is slightly louder than the ppp box due to slight differences in the internals and the larger exit pipe

Got one on my 03WRX,
a lovely burble at idle and also when pulling first and second gear,at cruising speeds you can hardly hear it inside(which is what i want),although i'm told you can here it coming from a distance.
looks the part also and well finished off, warranty friendly as well, regards the power increase you'll not notice it,
get rid of that pea shooter you'll not regret it,mine was fitted at the first service

Got one on my 02 (but with full decat) - not too loud inside and I think it gives a lovely noise - lower 'bass' burble than the Hayward and Scott backbox. Defintite plus going thru tunnels etc, and ppl always turn round when you're coming up, to see what's making that noise...

Mike Wood told me the WR Sport BB and the PPP BB are identical internally, and only differ in tailpipe design - oval vs round respectively.
I changed from WRS to PPP and it sounded the same - very nice indeed!
Cheers

So does this mean that I could say.....buy a 2nd hand one from the sale forum on here, and get it fitted and still keep my warranty?? because thats all im concerned about really, it would certainly save me a few quid!!

Neilo, I don't see any problem with that, the BB can be identified coz it has WR Sport imprinted on the top of it so it soundn't affect the warranty . As for the sound nice burble but not intrusive inside the cabin when on the M'way, can't say about power increases as I had it fitted for me collecting the car, I think you'd be lucky to see more than 5bhp from it.

Jim - I think there's a subtle difference in sound - but it's difficult to tell because it depends on whether you've got a full decat or standard system as well I'd have thought.
Either sound good, and make the Scoob sound 'meatier'...you can't really go wrong. I prefer the oval pipe - that's it. The rest of my system is H+S.

Just changing the backbox on my MY02 gave a noticeable freeing up at higher revs, IMHO. Below ~5000rpm, I didn't notice any power difference, but it meant that the car kept going a bit harder past 6000. Fitted the backbox in a 45 minute lunchbreak, and still had time to eat.
Mind you, I ran with backbox only for about 2 days before I had time to change the rest of the system. Now that made a real difference, especially when the ECU learned it's way in!
