There's a place in Bournemouth that have recently bought all the old Chapelgate 'Subaru' tools, their name is Triton Motor services, they are said to be quite good, although I haven't used them myself yet.

My MY99 Turbo has just started to over-rev when changing up through the box (clutch slip). It does catch up but over revs on accereration. Rang the local Subaru garage (you know who). They wanted over £700.00 to fit new clutch!!! Car no longer has warranty, can anyone recommend a reasonable local garage that don't want the shirt off yer back? All comments welcome. (Yes, even "humourous ones if you must)

Have a look in Scoobyshop - there's an Impreza turbo clutch for under £100. It's pre97 fitment AFAIK, but I expect the company can supply the right one for you at a small additional cost.

Then you just need a garage to fit it for you... There's a good place on the IOW that I use. It cost me £100 for the labour.

That leaves you with £450 to do some other mods (including the price of ferry fares )

Thanks Dnb. What's the name of the garage on IOW? Is there anywhere in Soton area that's worth trying for the fitting? Perhaps I'll get to keep my shirt after all!

The IOW place is called Calbourne Garage.

I'm sure there's somewhere the other side of the water... Probably worth making an enquiry in the Southern forum.

Thanks Dunk. I gave your guy a ring. Nice feller. Quoted me £350.00 all in (and no VAT). Said that flywheel may need attention, but he would'nt touch it if OK. Tons better that ********** of Botley who wanted over £700, they're aving a giraffe!!

Thanks again M8. Still keep it coming if you reckon you know of a cheeper place. Southampton area ideal as I use the car all the time.

Thanks again.

give William Street services a call. they are next to Shamrock Quay.

they used to look after my 95WRX/Escort Cossie/Supra. I now have a STi7 so no longer need to use them. Good bunch of guys.

I have a similar problem, serious rear crank oilseal leak. I will have the clutch replaced at the same time, seems sensible.
If you remember the old Autoterminal place they operate under a new name now. They quoted £350 on Saturday and gave the phone number as 08700463922, I think. I will ring them tomorrow as the puddle under my car is beyond a joke now and I can't hang on till the clutch wears out.
If you phone them, see if you can get a group discount for the two of us!

Shamrock came in at £434.75 including VAT. He reckons to take 5-6 hours and offers courtesy car. But much more local. Still thinking about it though.

SS,

Have you had a bad time at that certain place in Botley?
I am having my MY00 serviced there tomorrow and am now really scared.......
I also need a clutch in the next couple of months, hopefully an AP organic- is this a wise choice? How much should I be looking at to have this fitted?

Let us know

Geddon. Yeh, I do take my MY99 in to "that" place in Botley for servicing, they will stamp your service history book. Anything else though I reckon, shop around. I've heard some good reports about these organic clutches. I'd be interested to see how yours is. Keep me posted.

You were lucky ! I paid £930 at my local Subaru dealer in Kendal, and it took 3 months to get the money back, because it was a warranty claim on a Dutch import, and they said that was the procedure ! Guess what, the new one started to judder just the same after a further 5K, what a bag of .... you wouldn't expect that from a Fiesta, let alone a semi supercar, and I believe it is still going on with new cars !! oh and the sychro is so weak on 3rd to 4th that it crunches. So much for the legendary Subaru reliabilty !!

Well I've got some good news, for me anyway. I rang Barry at Central Tire last night, I've known him for years, and he recommended a bloke who charges £20 an hour.
Turns out the oil leak was in the oilcooler/filter area, he fixed it by dinnertime, changed the filter and oil, (semisynthetic, he took advice on that), and charged me £65.
Result!
£300 or so saved.
Enough to pay for the 17" TFT monitor I had to buy when the cat pissed on the 15" one and bolexed it!

Nice job Normarker2. It's always nice when it's not serious or should I say, expensive as you first think.

Splitter.... Have you got some juicy stories on the Botley lot? Cos I have. Did'nt buy my DBM MY99 in the end after test driving DGM MY98 there. They were a rip-off!

Had mine serviced yesterday with the boys at botley- 45k service inc cambelt= £460. However luckily for me I know of an ex Subaru mechanic thru a friend who only wants £120-150 to fit a new clutch if I supply the clutch- sounds like a result to me Better than 700 squid at least...
PS looking forward to more juicy stories now mine has had its service

Sorry to hear about scratch.... There are some a5resh@les about. I hope to do this one cos it's local (ie I don't need to map out Optimax pumps en route). Keep an eye on the southern forum for local meetings.

Might catch you next time M8.
