Castol Syntrax You will need about 3.75 liters for the gbox
The manual says four litres but i could only put 3.75 in mine before it said full, and yes you do have to fill it through the dip stick! Same oil for the rear diff but i don't know how much it takes.

The Castrol's good, so is Mobil 1 SHC 75w/90, so is Redline Shockproof, so is Silkolene Syn5, and I'm sure there are others too. As with engine oil, it's not like there's only one product that will do the job.

As has been said, gearbox capacity is somewhere between 3.2 and 3.8 litres. The earlier cars had smaller casings so they take less, while the newer cars take more.

Rear diff capacity is almost exactly 800cc. Make absolutely certain the car is level when you're changing this one, as it's not like you have the luxury of a dipstick to check after you've tightened the plugs up

Cheers guys. I was "told" by a m8 that the gearbox oil and diff oil are different. I've been using the same oil on both for a # of years on different Subaru's and couldn't understand what the hell he was going on about.

Where can you get Syntrax from?

I bought 3 litres from Halfords the other week (all they had in) but they still haven't got any replacement stock in yet.

Cheers
